Even in the quietest moments there are the sounds, perhaps the rustling of leaves, the hum of a fridge, or the low zzhhmmm of a car passing outside. Even in the absolute quietest of places you can still hear your breath. While some sounds can raise your blood pressure, induce anxiety, or startle you, others can be soothing and restful. Who doesn’t love the sound of the waves on the beach, or the wind in the trees. Incorporating gentle frequencies with yoga is a blissful combination.
A sound bath is an immersive way to bring relaxation to your body, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system. This tells your body it is safe to sink into the ringing of the singing bowls and drift off in the harmonic vibrations. The varied frequencies resonate with different parts of our bodies, and stimulate the brain to enter into a state of relaxation. Sound baths can improve sleep, help with focus, and offer space to feel whatever you are feeling. Another benefit is that you may find you come away with a renewed appreciation of your body and connection to yourself. There’s something really special about feeling your body relax into the mat while ethereal sounds wash over you, allowing just the right blend of focus and freedom in the mind.
You will be lying down on your mat, with props and blankets to make sure you are snug and cosy and feel held as you relax. You can close your eyes or keep them open, as we lead you through a yoga nidra session. As the session progresses you will be guided through to a place of gentle drowsiness, with the sound of the singing bowls to follow as you drift.
We are heading to Cornwall for this gorgeous Yoga Nidra Adventure Day on the 17th May at Sunshine Café & Yoga Studios ~ think brunch, good times, yoga, and a sound bath. You won’t want to miss this! Come home blissed out after a beautiful day tuning into our bodies, allowing a deep dive into the most relaxed postures.
